Let’s do this thing! 🤸
We’re gearing up for FreezerBurn 2027! 🧑🔧🧰
Where: Valkyrie Ranch, Paige, TX.
When: It will end on Monday, Jan 18th. It could start on Thursday, Jan 14th, giving us another night to camp with our friends. Read on for details.
This year, we want to open the gates on Thursday (Jan 14th) at 2 PM. More fun for all! However, it is not a done deal. Accomplishing this will require volunteers to step up earlier, volunteers to fill shifts earlier, volunteers to fill shifts later in the event, etc. So talk to your leads or snag volunteer shifts ASAP if you want to help make this happen. More updates to follow.
Another change this year is that we all have to GTFO by 2 PM on Monday. Yep, that’s earlier in the day. Site Ops people, you know, your friends who are volunteering in these roles, need to get home too, and they can’t go until the last of us are gone. So we all need to be sure to be gone by the new deadline.
Hypothermia for this cycle will be Dec 4th through 6th ☃️🦺
Mark your calendars: this is a valuable and fun event. You can even sign up to attend and/or present here.
What’s Hypothermia, you ask? It’s a place to get to know fellow FreezerBurners. It’s a place to get new skills. It’s how you can up your volunteering game. It’s a place to have fun in the evening, camping with friends, new and old.
If that’s not enough to whet your appetite, there’s more! Wally’s Cowboy Kitchen will be cooking for us. If you’ve had Wally’s cooking, you already know how good it is; if you haven’t, you’ll learn. 😋
Head start on Art, including Culinary Art 🧑🎨🧑🎤🧑🍳
The Art Intake Form is open! You’ve always wanted to build the effigy for a Burn? Your idea is super cool but of a different scale or would work best back in the woods? It all starts with submitting a proposal for consideration, so take that first step! Don’t sleep on this; all proposals must be submitted by Nov 7th!
We have a theme for the year! It is: Whimsymaximalist Mayhem 🥇
In a world where minimalism runs rampant and expression is stymied by the fear of being “cringe,” a new wave of Whimsy has taken over the frosty playa! Playfully poking fun at the serious nature of suits and ties, Whimsymaximalist Mayhem breaks out at FreezerBurn 2027!
The opportunities to lampoon seriousness are seriously unlimited!

Editor’s corner:
For those who don’t know me, I’m Framer, Comms AF, and thus the editor of this newsletter. Y’all, this is a new thing. The rest of the newsletter is written with the Voice of FreezerBurn, kind of the official word. That ended just above. This bit? This is my voice, speaking for myself, just another Burner. This section probably won’t be in every newsletter, and there’ll be nothing essential covered here; feel free to skip if you want.
Today it’s art tickets and our art fund. Just this week I learned that a few years ago we sold 300 art tickets per cycle and last cycle it was only 75. Our art fund is getting depleted. That hurt my heart for a couple reasons.
Why are sales down? I can’t know for sure, but it’s easy to speculate. Prices are up out there in the world; doesn’t matter why for this discussion – they just are. People are pinched. Too many of our community are un-or-underemployed. That was the first reason; it’s likely an indication of people struggling.
Also true: art matters. Artists don’t have it easy in the best of times and are damn sure facing tough times now. The art grants that FreezerBurn gives out matter. If that fund goes dry or is severely cut back, our art likely gets cut back. That’s the other thing that hurt; I don’t want that to happen.
The new tiered art ticket prices are an experiment to help with that. Previously only the $206.28 option was offered. This year, with the three tiers, perhaps people can better match their giving to their ability. That’s the hope. We’ll report back on the results.
I want to keep seeing the amazing creations our community can bring; I’ve been horrified, bemused, puzzled, delighted, surprised, and enchanted by the creations I’ve seen at FreezerBurn. If at all possible, let’s pitch in to keep them coming!
